  1. on page 4 it mentions that temple typology will be elaborated on later in the gospel of mark when is this

  2. Why does Jesus’ calming of the sea have implications for his identity that go far beyond his being a miracle worker or a prophet? (p. 9)

  3. On page 8 it says that the disciples have seen many miracles that Jesus has performed yet the calming of the sea is the first mentioned time of them being fearful. Why wouldn’t they have just been as scared to see Jesus head a paralytic or send out demons? Just because they were used to those miracles? And if so then wouldn’t they have more trust that if Jesus could control demons that He would save them from the sea?

  4. How does the tearing of the temple veil and the tearing of the heavens echo an answer of the cry for deliverance from Isaiah 64:1? pg. 4

  5. “This Christian claim (of universal validity) is naturally offensive to the adherents of every other religious system.”

I know we’ve discussed something along these lines before, but I still don’t see how other religions can justify getting up in arms over this fact when most other religions also claim universal validity.

  6. why is it dire NOW specifically more then any other time, to have a overwhelming need for a clear and accurate understanding of who Jesus is and who He claimed to be in the gospel accounts. is it because of where we are in time, or because of material…not having enough back up…or the opposite, and we have too many different views. and isnt who Jesus is and who He claimed to be in the gospels still the same thing? i dont understand how there could be any question?

  7. On pg. 8, it talks about how in Mark it is no coincidence that immediately after the rejection of the Pharisees, he writes the second demonic confession saying that the demons could say who He truly is but the Pharisees couldn’t. How do we not know if it didn’t just happened like that and there is not a somewhat hidden message

  8. (p. 5-6) What would have been the difference between Jesus’ teaching and that of the scribes that everyone would have recognized him as having authority right away?

  9. page 11
Why did Jesus intend to pass by the disciples when they were struggling in a storm in Mark 6? If he fully intended to pass by them, why did he not follow his intentions?

  10. i really thought it was interesting when we talked about the tearing of the veil in class and now reading this: “the tearing of the temple veil from top to bottom- an indication that it is God who has done this” (p. 19) i had never really thought about that before. it’s something we just read and move on.. that the veil was torn.. ok so what?.. but this helped point out the importance and meaning of it being torn.

  11. If Mark’s head didn’t glow like that, then how exactly did his head glow? Was it merely a different hue?

  12. On page 4, it says that Jesus discovered he was the Son of GOD at His baptism. I don’t, being the Son of GOD, He should already know that, shouldn’t He?

  13. pg 8 Is the lack of faith from the the Pharisees similar to the Israelites lack of faith after God had proven himself to them so many times? i know the Pharisees were driven more by pride but plaese elaborate.

  14. I have 2 questions actually, both about the transfiguration, and you should be so proud of me for doing this cuz i feel awful and i just want to be in bed. First of all, on page 13, I was noticing that white seems to be a significant color pertaining to Jesus and God and heaven. I was wondering why? I mean i understand the whole “he is the light of the world” and white is the lightest color and the purest color (though i suppose i don’t understand why it’s a symbol of purity because it’s the presence of every color rather than the absence(black) which would make white impure… idk, it’s late and i’m an artist and a legalist haha) The second question is formed around the bottom of page 13 and the top of page 14….so… here goes: Where did Moses and Elijah come from? Did they come from heaven or from “Abraham’s Bosom”, as we talked about earlier in the year? I understand you probably don’t know the answer, but i figured i might as well ask anyways. Did God let them out for some specific purpose, i mean, why were they really there? was it just for the disciples to see him with them? and how did the disciples know that is was Moses and Elijah if they’d never seen pictures of him before unless they knew by way of the Holy Spirit… but still. idk. i’m too tired for this, good night everyone!

  15. why is there an overwhelmingly dire need for a clear and accurate understanding of who Jesus is and who he claimed to be now? Why isn’t there that same need at other times?

  16. why does the tearing of the temple curtin show the crys of the isrealite people?
    pg4

  17. What does it mean by “overwhelming” need for Jesus anyways? what does the word overwhelming necessarily mean?

  18. On pages 11 and 12 it talks about the miracles Jesus did and how amazed people were by them. In relation to the verses Mark 16:9-14 when the disciples didn’t believe. I mean they are his disciples why was it so hard not to belive after seeing all of those miracles?

  19. This paper was able to answer a few questions and curiosities I had. The first was in regard to the calming of the storm (pg 9), and second to the confession of the centurion (pg 19). It was also just encouraging to be reaffirmed and receive further knowledge regarding the fact that Jesus is the Son of God, our Savior, and of the authority and power he has.

  20. On page 5-6, it talks about crowds ability to pick out Jesus as having authority immediately. How could they recognize Jesus immediately over the Pharisees?

  21. On page 11 I thought the fact that we tend to think that the most common response to Jesus was kindness but the reality was that he had much more extreme responses like people thought he was demon possesed and they were terrified and stuff. I think it is so cool that we are following an awesome God that demands an awesome response and not just a common nonexciting response.

  22. pg 4 says that Jesus came to “realize” that He is a chosen one? I don’t understand how he come to realize that. Wouldn’t he have known before?

  23. On page 1, it talks about how Jesus wasn’t just “harmlessly promoting a loving and peaceful message.” This reminded me of a verse that I read: Matthew 10:34 – “Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.”
I guess this is slightly off topic; but I’m confused as to what that really means. Any explanation would be quite helpful. =)

  24. Why does it matter if Mark’s first verse includes “Son of God” in the opening verse when it is shown to be a mainpoint that Mark agrees with and proves throughout the rest of his gospel?

  25. I don’t understand why it was soo hard for the disciples to have faith in the miracles of Jesus when they experienced them so often since they were with Him all the time. This is especially hard to believe when others who saw the healings and miracles of Jesus were simply amazed! pg.11-12

  26. Why did the disciples struggle with believing Jesus was the Son of God after being with him and seeing all of his miracles?

  27. On the first page in the last paragraph it talks about people who try & “normalize, and, in effect, nueter Jesus’ words…” What does this mean they are doing?

  28. It talks about Jesus’ “perfect obedience” on page 5. This is amazing considering he was a teen at one point in his life. But there is nothing in the Bible that even mentions his teenage years. Im not skeptical of His divinity, but why would God not choose to have that written about.

  29. : I know the scribes were very upset with Jesus’ authoritative teaching, but wouldn’t th1`e common people be upset as well since they too had for so long followed the teaching of the Old Testament.? (pgs 5&6)

  30. On Page 7. It talked about Jesus/God can Forgive sins. The scribes had it right that only God could/can forgive sins. Jesus agreed with them. But I am wondering, how could the scribes miss all the signs that Jesus was demonstrating about Himself (that He was God)?
