How to Read the Bible for All its Worth – The Gospels

Sorry it’s so late. I just got home from the game.

Godspeed you as you finish reading.

It’s the greatest you will EVER read.

I’m blessed to be given the opportunity to even ask you to do it.

This painting is entitled “the calling of saints Peter & Andrew”.

The artist is Caravaggio from the 16th Century.

Love the beardless Jesus.

U2 Video of the Day – 12 February

I’ve decided to start posting a U2 video each day leading up the release of their new album in early March.

Since I got the idea after posting the “stuck in a moment…” video, I’m going to make this the official first post. (the other one was a bonus)

I’ll make this the first video since it is probably my favorite version of my favorite U2 song.

U2 at their best in every way. Released in 1985, this song made a tremendous impression on me at a very impressionable age.

I would say that this song represents the quintessential U2 experience…

and no, I’m not sleeping either…

If you twist and turn away.
It you tear yourself in two again.
If I could, yes I would
If I could, I would let it go.
Surrender, dislocate.

If I could throw this lifeless life-line to the wind.
Leave this heart of clay, see you walk, walk away
Into the night, and through the rain
Into the half light and through the flame.

If I could, through myself, set your spirit free
I’d lead your heart away, see you break, break away
Into the light and to the day.

To let it go and so to find away.
To let it go and so find away.
I’m wide awake.
I’m wide awake, wide awake.
I’m not sleeping.

If you should ask, then maybe
They’d tell you what I would say
True colours fly in blue and black
Blue silken sky and burning flag.
Colours crash, collide in blood-shot eyes.

If I could, you know I would
If I could, I would let it go.

This desperation, dislocation
Separation, condemnation
Revelation, in temptation
Isolation, desolation
Let it go and so to find away
To let it go and so to find away
To let it go and so to find away

I’m wide awake, I’m wide awake, wide awake
I’m not sleeping
Oh no, no, no.

U2 – Stuck in a Moment You Can’t Get Out Of

Sorry about the removed grammy videos.

Hope you got to see them before the capitalists intruded.

Here’s something that won’t be blocked, and that, as the biggest U2 fan I know, was delighted to discover today.

This is one of my least favorite U2 songs, and the US version of the video is probably my least favorite U2 video.

Double whammy.

But this (the international version) is striking stuff, and makes me like the song a great deal more.

Hope you like it.

Which version do you prefer?

Coldplay – Lost!/Viva La Vida @ the Grammys

I vow to you that this will be the first and last post I ever make even vaguely referencing/featuring Jay-Z.

But I think he’s as right as he can be from an apparently unredeemed perspective.

The irony’s not lost (pardon the pun) on me that he’s decrying the fickleness of fame and success at an evening dedicated to it, but it’s worth noting that’s he remotely on to something.

The NT especially makes clear that riches are not the solution, but the problem. Viva la Vida’s thrilling ode to Napoleon (who himself recognized the glare of his own tragedy) verges on this, too.

Thought-provoking and interesting stuff from an otherwise mostly vapid evening of celebrity-worship.
