U2 Video of the Day – 19 February

a little behind due to some software upgrades.

here’s the updates…

let me in the sound indeed…

Future needs a big kiss
Winds blow with a twist
Never seen a move like this
Can you see it too
Night is falling everywhere
Rockets hit the funfair
Satan loves a bomb scare
But it won’t scare you

Hey…Sexy Boots
Get on your Boots
Yeah…

Free me from the dark dream
Candy bars, ice cream
All the kids are screaming but the ghosts arent real
Heres what you gotta be
Love & community
Laughter is eternity if the joy is real

You dont know how beautiful
You dont know how beautiful
You are…
You dont know
You don’t get it do you
You dont know
How beautiful you are…

If someones into blowing up
Were into growing up
Women are the future
All the big revelations
Ive gotta submarine
Youve got gasoline
I dont wanna talk about wars between nations
Not right now

Sexy Boots
Get on your Boots
Yeah…
Foxy boots

You dont know how beautiful
You dont know how beautiful
You are…

Sexy Boots
I dont wanna talk about wars

Let me in the sound
Let me in the sound
Let me in the sound
My God Im going down
I dont wanna drown now
Let me in the sound

Let me in the sound
Let me in the sound
Let me in the sound

Get on your Boots
Get on your Boots
Yeah…

My favourite song from the record

John Prine, Killing the Blues

Leaves were falling ..Just like embers
In colors red and gold they set us on fire
Burning just like a moonbeam ..in our eyes

Chorus:
Somebody said they saw me
Swinging the world by the tail
Bouncing over a white cloud.
Killing the Blues

I am guilty of something
I hope you never do because there is nothing
Sadder than losing .. yourself in love

Repeat Chorus:

Repeat Chorus:

Now, you ask me Just to leave you
To go out on my own and get what I need to
You want me to find ..what I’ve already had

U2 Video of the Day – 18 February

For me, this is the best song they’ve ever done.

A very interesting video.

From 1993′s Zooropa.

U2 – Stay [Faraway, So Close!]

Stay (Faraway, So Close!)

Green light, Seven Eleven,
You stop in for a pack of cigarettes.
You don’t smoke, don’t even want to.
Hey now, check your change.
Dressed up like a car crash
Your wheels are turnin’ but you’re upside down.
You say when he hits you, you don’t mind
Because when he hurts you, you feel alive.
Oh, is that what it is?

Red lights, grey morning
You stumble out of a hole in the ground.
A vampire or a victim
It depends on who’s around.
You used to stay in to watch the adverts
You could lip synch. to the talk shows.
And if you look, you look through me
And when you talk, you talk at me
And when I touch you, you don’t feel a thing.

If I could stay, then the night would give you up.
Stay, and the day would keep its trust.
Stay, and the night would be enough.

Faraway, so close
Up with the static and the radio.
With satellite television
You can go anywhere:
Miami, New Orleans
London, Belfast and Berlin.

And, if you listen, I can’t call.
And, if you jump, you just might fall.
And, if you shout, I’ll only hear you.

If I could stay, then the night would give you up.
Stay, and the day would keep its trust.
Stay with the demons you drowned.
Stay with the spirit I found.
Stay, and the night would be enough.

Three o’clock in the morning
It’s quiet, there’s no one around,
Just the bang and the clatter
As an angel runs to ground.
Just the bang and the clatter
As an angel hits the ground.

U2 Video of the Day – 17 February

I once heard Bono say that what was missing from “Christian” art was the duality, the tension.

U2′s career has certainly featured this in spades.

From the soaring Latin phrases of Gloria to the existential crisis of I Still Haven’t Found… they constantly keep the faithful watching and guessing.

U2′s Pop, released in 1997 is arguably their most thoroughly cynical album

This song, If God Will Send His Angels, reads like a Psalm of lament:

“How long, O Lord, will you look on and do nothing?” (Psalm 35:17 – NLT)

So enjoy the duality. Be honest enough to ask the same questions the Psalmist asked.

If God Will Send His Angels

Nobody else here baby
No-one else here to blame
No-one to point the finger
It’s just you and me and the rain.

Nobody made you do it
No one put words in your mouth.
Nobody here taking orders
When love took a train heading south.
It’s the blind leading the blond
It’s the stuff, it’s the stuff of country songs.

Hey, if God will send his angels
And if God will send a sign
And if God will send his angels
Would everything be alright?

God’s got his phone off the hook, babe
Would he even pick up if he could?
It’s been a while since we saw that child
Hangin’ round this neighbourhood.

See his mother dealing in a doorway
See Father Christmas with a begging bowl.
And Jesus’ sister’s eyes are a blister
The High Street never looked so low.

It’s the blind leading the blond
It’s the cops collecting for the cons.
So where is the hope and
Where is the faith and the love?
What’s that you say to me
Does love light up your Christmas tree?
The next minute you’re blowing a fuse
And the cartoon network turns into the news.

If God will send his angels
And if God will send a sign
Well if God will send his angels
Where do we go?
Where do we go?

Jesus never let me down
You know Jesus used to show me the score.
Then they put Jesus in show business
Now it’s hard to get in the door.

It’s the stuff, it’s the stuff of country songs
But I guess it was something to go on.
Hey, if God will send his angels
I sure could use them here right now
Well, if God will send his angels…

Where do we go?
Where do we go?

U2 Video of the Day – 16 February

A great song on the greatest rock record of all time.

I’m pretty sure that I spent the better part of 18 months of my life (1987-1988) listening to this album (The Joshua Tree) repeatedly.

To say that it has shaped me profoundly would be an understatement. I am very thankful for the grace of God that at a formative season in my life, I was influenced by music that is among the most deeply redemptive ever seen in popular rock.

…then all the colours will bleed into one…

I think Bono and I have both found what we were looking for.

Or rather, that the One looking has found us…

I’ll defend that last statement if you ask me.

At the end of the video, watch Bono tell the guy in the car, “you’re on TV”

Priceless.

I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For

I have climbed the highest mountains
I have run through the fields
Only to be with you
Only to be with you.

I have run, I have crawled
I have scaled these city walls
These city walls
Only to be with you.

But I still haven’t found
What I’m looking for.
But I still haven’t found
What I’m looking for.

I have kissed honey lips
Felt the healing in her finger tips
It burned like fire
(I was) burning inside her.

I have spoke with the tongue of angels
I have held the hand of a devil
It was warm in the night
I was cold as a stone.

But I still haven’t found
What I’m looking for.
But I still haven’t found
What I’m looking for.

I believe in the Kingdom Come
Then all the colours will bleed into one
Bleed into one.
But yes, I’m still running.

You broke the bonds
And you loosed the chains
Carried the cross of my shame
Oh my shame, you know I believe it.

But I still haven’t found
What I’m looking for.
But I still haven’t found
What I’m looking for.

But I still haven’t found
What I’m looking for.
But I still haven’t found
What I’m looking for.

U2 Video of the Day – 15 February

Probably the best known song off of their least-known record, “Gloria” is certainly (like the entire October record) a hidden gem in the U2 pantheon.

I try to sing this song
I, I try to stand up
But I can’t find my feet.
I, I try to speak up
But only in you I’m complete.

Gloria
In te domine
Gloria
Exultate
Gloria
Gloria
Oh, Lord, loosen my lips.

I try to sing this song
I, I try to get in
But I can’t find the door
The door is open
You’re standing there, you let me in.

Gloria
In te domine
Gloria
Exultate
Oh, Lord, if I had anything, anything at all
I’d give it to you.

Gloria
In te domine
Gloria
Gloria

U2 Video of the Day – Valentine’s Day

My favourite U2 love song.

Great lyric.

Great video.

All I Want is You.

All I Want Is You

You say you want diamonds on a ring of gold
You say you want your story to remain untold.
All the promises we make
From the cradle to the grave
When all I want is you.

You say you’ll give me a highway with no-one on it
Treasure, just to look upon it
All the riches in the night.

You say you’ll give me eyes in the moon of blindness
A river in a time of dryness
A harbour in the tempest.
All the promises we make, from the cradle to the grave
When all I need is you.

You say you want your love to work out right
To last with me through the night.

You say you want diamonds on a ring of gold
Your story to remain untold
Your love not to grow cold.
All the promises we break, from the cradle to the grave
When all I want is you.

U2 Video of the Day – 13 February

Server was down last night.

So here’s yesterday’s entry.

For Eric Hall.

Psalm 40 (New Living Translation)

For the choir director: A psalm of David.

1 I waited patiently for the Lord to help me,
and he turned to me and heard my cry.
2 He lifted me out of the pit of despair,
out of the mud and the mire.
He set my feet on solid ground
and steadied me as I walked along.
3 He has given me a new song to sing,
a hymn of praise to our God.
Many will see what he has done and be amazed.
They will put their trust in the Lord.
4 Oh, the joys of those who trust the Lord,
who have no confidence in the proud
or in those who worship idols.
5 O Lord my God, you have performed many wonders for us.
Your plans for us are too numerous to list.
You have no equal.
If I tried to recite all your wonderful deeds,
I would never come to the end of them.
