Love this video. No redeeming qualities that I can see, just very very fun. Enjoy

Isaiah 55:1-3
I found this picture on www.shanebertou.com, and found it to be wildly appropriate.

Even our four-year daughter is besieged by covetousness this season.
As Francois Fenelon said, “May God preserve us from that fatal slavery…”
Or as Sufjan Stevens has said: “Get behind me, Santa!”
Isaiah 55
The Compassion of the LORD
1 “Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters;and he who has no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.
2 Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which does not satisfy? Listen diligently to me, and eat what is good, and delight yourselves in rich food.
3 Incline your ear, and come to me; hear, that your soul may live; and I will make with you an everlasting covenant,my steadfast, sure love for David.
Will Petraeus be Bush’s Grant?
This is from Nolan Finley’s blog (the editorial page director for the Detroit News).
It seems to echo what John McCain said in last night’s debate about the current situation in Iraq.
In this entry Finley appears fair & objective – always appreciated.

Will Petraeus be Bush’s Grant?
So many Americans are so heavily invested in the conviction that the war in Iraq is a lost cause that they refuse to allow themselves to celebrate what clearly is substantial progress. Gen. David Petraeus, who was treated so rudely by the left just a few weeks ago, appears to have found the right formula for stabilizing the country.
While violence continues and there’s still a long way to go before U.S. troops can leave, the surge and new policing tactics offer the first real reason to feel optimistic since the war began. This good news doesn’t wipe away nearly five years of mismanagement of the war by the Bush administration, nor does it settle the issue of whether the invasion of Iraq was justified. But it does give hope that there’s a way out of Iraq other than simply abandoning the country.
Maybe the best exit strategy is to win the war. If so, Petraeus won’t be the first general to bail out a war-time president. As late as the summer of 1864, Abraham Lincoln had written off his chances for reelection because the Civil War had become such a quagmire. But then Gen. Grant rode to the rescue, saving not just Lincoln’s presidency, but also winning a war that many had come to think of as unwinnable. What’s happening in Iraq is good news. You don’t have to throw your arms around President Bush to feel good about that. Al Qaeda is on the run, the insurgency is waning and the fractious Iraqis are learning to work together. No matter where you stand on the justness of the war, this is good news.

Everything is Spiritual & “Excavating Jesus”
Indeed, everything is spiritual, but not everything Rob Bell says or endorses is the gospel.I was all set to put one of those “Everything is Spiritual” banners on my blog —– until I saw his recommended reading section on the website. One of the books he recommends is by John Dominic Crossan. To put it mildly, John Dominic Crossan doesn’t like the Bible, and furthermore does not like the Jesus of the Bible. One review of the book in question (“Excavating Jesus”) on amazon.com described him as the “premiere historical Jesus scholar in the world today”.Nonsense.John Dominic Crossan is on record as saying that Jesus wasn’t even crucified (he was probably “thrown in a ditch”), and that the Gospels are notoriously unreliable sources of information about the historical Jesus. Why would Rob Bell recommend his books? Why not recommend N.T. Wright’s series on Christian Origins and the Question of God?Or, more recently, Bauckham’s Jesus & the Eyewitnesses?Or the excellent collection of essays entitled Jesus Under Fire, edited by J.P. Moreland?Jesus Under FireWhile I continue to root for Rob Bell as a brother in Christ, he continues to alarm me with his apparent carelessness. This is a problem that absolutely PLAGUES the emergent church. If you’re reading Rob Bell, listening to Rob Bell, or watching Rob Bell, just be mindful of these things as you do.And please, please, let’s dialogue about this. Remember, after all, ideas have consequences.
